Small Home Family: One Year Later

It's been a year now since I started sharing about our home and family here at smallhomefamily.com. In that time, we've published 99 blog posts, shared 145 tweets, and gained a Twitter following that grows daily.

We've talked about a lot of different topics over the past year, and as a tribute to our first anniversary and a reminder of where we've taken our readers on this journey, I want to spend this ultimate Throwback Thursday revisiting our top five posts from the past year.

#5 2 Kids+No Bathtub=A Tiny House Dilemma

What do you do when your tiny house has no tub to bathe your kids? That's the question I answer in this popular post that got a lot of hits back in the day. I really can't explain why it's been so popular. Is a lack of a bathtub something very many families deal with in their own homes? I wrote a follow-up post to this one four months later about our Stokke Flexi-bath, which has been an even better solution for us than the big plastic bin we were originally using. Check that one out here

#3 (tie) Tiny House KonMari

I guess people are really into decluttering these days because we got a great response to our KonMari series. In fact, we are still working on our KonMari project. (I've been slowly tackling papers and komono when I have the time.) Stay tuned for another update in the future.

#3 (tie) Enough Toys

One of our first posts ever, this one delves into the question of whether it's okay to say enough is enough. The ironic thing to me about this post is that after writing it, we pared back the toys even more as part of our KonMari journey, and we really haven't missed any of them. It really is possible to have enough toys.

#2 The Floorplan that We Call Home

No surprise here! People want to know what our house looks like. I'm toying with the idea of doing an updated walk through of our home at some point. The biggest reason we haven't? I have two young children. Our whole house is just never clean all at once! I've also seen others get a fair bit of negative feedback about their tiny lived-in spaces if they aren't Pinterest-perfect. Yep, it's a home folks. People actually live here!

#1 Living in a Small Home with Kids: 10 Reasons It Might Not Be Right for You

By far our most popular post ever, this one was actually featured on Tiny House Talk! It's been nearly a year since we first published it, and it continues to get regular hits.

So what's next here at Small Home Family? As you have probably noticed, we have a new look here at the site! We will continue to refine our new layout over the next few weeks, so pardon our "dust" as we clean up around here. We also will continue to do our best to bring you new blog posts on a regular basis. We have a few articles in the works already, including more about our recent vacation and that trundle tutorial we promised. For more from the Small Home Family, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to make sure you don't miss anything!
